Should you put a ring on it?

Read an article on CNN.com today (man, do they have some girly stuff on there sometimes!) written by a woman whose engagement was broken by a cold-footed groom.

She writes how at first, it was very difficult, but then as time went on she still felt happy for friends and family members who were taking the plunge. The article, in other words, was fairly unremarkable up to this point.

But it was the end that caught me. She writes, "A ring makes [your relationship] no more or no less secure. Being engaged can be romantic, wonderful, and exciting. Scary and anxiety-causing? Sure. But secure? No. A ring is just window dressing. What's behind it is either quality, or it's not, or it's somewhere in between and it's up to the two of you -- not a piece of jewelry -- to make the most of it."

A good reminder/message, I think, even for those who are already married.

As a side note, as I'm writing this post, Beyonce's "Single Ladies" is blasting in my head. Such a good booty-shaking song.... ;)
