Haven't really felt like writing lately, thanks to a hugely busy couple of weeks at work. Sometimes even an editor can get tired of words.
All is well. I shook off my melancholy eventually. We had a lovely weekend in VT, eating a TON of junk food at an event his family calls "Little Thanksgiving." Essentially it's a very, very, very unhealthy dinner (made up of everything from pizza to donuts, and chicken wings to ice cream) that his siblings host for their friends and each other. Lots of laughs, belly aches, and general good times all around.
I'm cooking up a scheme to get more posts up here. Will write about it shortly.
For now, I just have to confess this somewhere but.... despite my best intentions to turn my nose up at this event in pop culture, I succumbed and read (in one night!) the first book in Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series. I'm both embarrassed and amused.
As an avid horror story reader in my younger days, I always dreamed something very much along the lines of this scenario would happen to me. So geeky, so true. Naturally I'm now looking forward to reading the second, third, fourth, and how many every books there are/will be in the series. Freakin' romance novels.
The writing is not the best I've read, I'll admit. Some of her phrases and interactions between characters are cliche and exaggerated, but it's still a decent/entertaining read (evidenced even more so by the mass hysteria that's erupting over the upcoming movie).
I suppose anything that encourages girls (and their mothers) to read isn't totally worthless. Maybe this is the 21st century's version of a Jane Austen novel? The new round of Harry Potter for those kids who had just begin to miss day dreaming about magic?
Or maybe it's just a sexy story... I wonder if the movie will be any good...
